MAPLEWOOD, N.J. – Maplewood native Mark Blum died on Wednesday in New York City at the age of 69 from complications of the new coronavirus, according to the New York Times.

Blum was an award-winning stage and screen actor and was particularly well-known in the Off Broadway world, according to the Times' obituary. He also appeared in nine Broadway productions, including "Twelve Angry Men," "Lost in Yonkers," and "The Merchant."

Blum grew up in Maplewood and attended the University of Pennsylvania, intending to be a lawyer or an engineer, but ultimately graduated as a theater major in 1972.

He appeared in more than two dozen films, and on dozens of prime-time shows, including "Miami Vice," "Roseanne," and "Frasier," according to the Times.

Blum was the son of former Maplewood Planning Board Chair Mort Blum and his wife Loraine, according to The Village Green.
