Maplewood Police Apprehend Two Suspects, Confiscate Gun

The Seth Boyden School staff was asked to 'shelter in place' during an incident in which a man said two masked suspects invaded his home.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ —Maplewood police said Friday that around 11:27 a.m., they responded to a report of a possible robbery or shooting on Boyden Avenue. When police arrived, witnesses gave them information about two suspects.

Police found two "persons of interest" in the area and took them into custody, according to Sgt. Michael Palmerezzi. They also found a stolen handgun near where one suspect was apprehended.

Police said that an injured man being treated at the hospital gave them information about what had happened in the incident. He said that two unknown persons entered his home, assaulted him, and ransacked his home. The man ran outside to his vehicle and drove to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries, he said.

The injured man was transported to police headquarters to give a statement.

Around the time of the incident, police notified the staff of the nearby Seth Boyden School to shelter in place. A "short time after," the school was able to resume activities.

Police did not release the name of the suspects. They said no weapon was fired, and there is no danger to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
