Maplewood Police Issue Holiday Safety Reminders

Common sense will go a long way this holiday season, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The holiday season is in full swing and shoppers are filling their vehicles to the top with gifts for loved ones and authorities are issuing a few wortds of caution.

The Maplewood Police Department Detective and Traffic Bureaus would like to issue the following security reminders:

  • Cold weather brings the risk of motor vehicle thefts due to vehicles left idling with the keys inside. Don’t create an easy target, lock your doors when you warm your vehicle prior to travel.
  • Do not leave items in your vehicle in plain view. If you must leave items in your vehicle, place them in the trunk where they cannot be seen.
  • If your vehicle comes equipped with a valet key please remove it and leave it in a secure location in your residence.

Follow the #9PM Routine. Every night at 9 p.m., lock your doors, set your alarms and secure all valuables.
