MAPLEWOOD, NJ — After Mother Nature dropped several inches of snow in Essex County on Sunday, another layer is predicted for early Tuesday morning, so the South Orange-Maplewood schools will be remote Tuesday.
"Due to the inclement weather forecasted to begin early tomorrow morning and for transportation safety, all SOMSD schools will operate on a virtual/remote schedule for Tuesday, February 9," said the district's announcement. "Teachers and central office staff will work remotely and OOD transportation is canceled. Weather permitting, food distribution will be provided at CHS, Maplewood Middle School, Seth Boyden and South Orange Middle School from 12pm – 1:30pm; if there are any changes, we will send an update."
Forecasters say the Garden State may be in for more snow later this week, particularly Thursday and Friday. Specifically for North Jersey, the National Weather Service predicts snow Tuesday and Thursday.
