Maplewood Storekeeper Shot in Armed Robbery, Cops Say

Alleged armed robbery at Prospect Street convenience store.

A shopkeeper was shot in the torso in an alleged armed robbery Monday afternoon at the MS & K Confectionary Store on Prospect Street, according to Capt. John Perna of the Maplewood Police Department.

A man entered the variety store, showed a handgun and demanded that the storekeeper open the cash register, said Perna. There was a struggle, and the man shot the shopkeeper in the torso then fled in an unknown direction, Perna said.

The shopkeeper was taken to University Hospital in Newark where he is listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, said Perna.
