Maplewood Village Construction Work Suspended For Halloween

The upgrades are expected to resume in earnest Nov. 5.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - There will be no construction frights to contend with this Halloween as the Maplewood Avenue paver project presses pause for Wednesday.

According to officials, the project is moving along according to schedule, and, as originally planned, Phase One of the new bump outs, curbing and drainage installations should be completed by Nov. 16, clearing the way for the holiday season in the Village Phase II, the installation of new brick pavers on the Maplewood Avenue sidewalks, will not resume until the spring 2019.

While there will be no construction on Halloween, Maplewood Avenue will be closed to traffic between Baker Street and Durand Road to allow for the Halloween parade.

During or shortly after the week of Nov. 5, Maplewood Avenue between Durand Road and Lenox Place will be milled and paved and re-striped. This is expected to take two to three days, during which time the street will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Officials noted that with the assistance of the Maplewood Police Department, there will be sidewalk pedestrian access.

On Monday, the work will resume at the intersection of Maplewood Avenue and Baker Street.

The MPD and Township Engineering Department have instructed the contractor to remove all outstanding debris from the project site before this weekend, and the Township is making all efforts to insure that work sites are fully safe and secured at the end of each work day.

Additional precautions to increase pedestrian safety will be taken in preparation for the Halloween parade, including additional barricades, cones and construction fencing.
