Maplewood's Underhill Sports Complex Will Have Security Upgrades

While the project is underway, only student-athletes​ will be allowed to use Underhill​, with coach supervision.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Underhill Sports Complex in Maplewood will have security upgrades, according to a statement from the South Orange and Maplewood School District.

While the project is underway, only student-athletes will be allowed to use Underhill, with coach supervision. Scheduled student sporting activities will happen, starting on July 12.

Members of the public will not be able to use Underhill until the upgrade project is completed.

"We do understand the inconvenience this may cause for some community members who regularly use our track or field for recreational purposes, but we believe this is a necessary step as we move forward with the project," the South Orange and Maplewood School District said in a statement.

Details about the security updates were not disclosed, in order to prevent the complex users to become vulnerable.

The decision to move forward with the project came after many conversations and assessments of the current security infrastructure at the Underhill facility with township officials, Maplewood Police Chief DeVaul, Board President Joshua and Columbia High School Principal Sanchez.
