Report: Osborne Completes Final Ann Arbor Interviews

Superintendent talks to board, Michigan community about his plans for the district.

Superintendent Brian Osborne completed his final round of interviews—which included a Q&A with parents and the community—in his quest to become the next leader of the Ann Arbor Public School system.

Osborne spent the day touring different schools in the Michigan district and meeting staff, according to reports on Ann Arbor.com. He and the other finalist, Jeanice Kerr Swift, presented the Ann Arbor Board of Education with plans for what they would do in their first 90 days. See Osborne’s plan here

Osborne said he wished to model “visibility, transparency and accessibility,” according to the report. Osborne had said in his application that he was drawn to the district's "strength" in facing achievement gap and fiscal challenges.

In the community Q&A session, Osborne said Ann Arbor has a better chance than anywhere of fulfilling what he sees as society’s moral obligation to good public education, according to the report. He added that the job would be a great career opportunity for him and Ann Arbor is a place he would want to raise his family.

In response to a question about his “timeframe” for accepting the job, Osborne said he would have to work out “contractual obligations” with SOMSD, the report said.
