Rotary Seeks Host Families

We are looking for hosts during their 3 week stay. This is your chance to learn about Japanese culture, develop new friendships, and make a positive difference in the life of a student. It is also great fun and easier than you may think.

On August 1, twenty four students and three leaders will arrive in our Rotary District from Shikoku, Japan as part of the Ross Redmond Short Term Youth Exchange. We are looking for hosts during their 3 week stay. This is your chance to learn about Japanese culture, develop new friendships, and make a positive difference in the life of a student. It is also great fun and easier than you may think. On weekdays, you will provide breakfast and then drop the two students at a designated location near your home. The students board a Rotary bus and spend the day visiting attractions in and around our District, including New York and Philadelphia. At the end of the day you will pick them up at the same location and learn all about their adventures at your evening meal. On weekends, the students are with you for two entire days so you can plan activities and show them your community. Having high school aged students of your own is not a requirement to participate in the program. Host families are responsible for meals, accommodations, activities, supervision and care. We will provide information to outline the details of hosting and answer all of your questions. A background check is required. Hosting dates are as follows: Section 1 (Sussex, Warren and western Morris Counties) From August 2 to August 8 Drop off in Phillipsburg or Mt. Arlington Section 2 (Morris County and Bernardsville) From August 8 to August 14 Drop off in Florham Park Section 3 (Essex County) From August 14 to August 20 Drop off in West Orange This is the 34th year that our District and District 2670 in Japan have participated in this exchange. Since its inception thousands of students from both countries have taken part in this program, building goodwill and fostering international understanding. Now you have the opportunity to get involved and help in this cause. With your involvement the bond between these two countries can grow stronger.
