Coming Soon: 15th Annual CHS Boosters Golf Classic is May 6

Still time to attend (or just make a donation). Event organizers say budget cuts make fundraising especially essential to sustain and grow CHS activities.

The 15th Annual Columbia High School Cougars Booster Golf Classic is Monday, May 6 at the Maplewood Country Club. This event is the primary fundraiser for the Boosters, which funds scores of extracurricular activities, including the athletic program, at CHS each year.

Sponsored this year by Maplecrest Auto of Union, Shop Rite - Village Markets and the HK Project, the classic kicks off in the morning with a festive brunch, then it's out to the tees for a day of golfing and socializing. Cap off the evening with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres followed by dinner, an auction and a raffle (and awards for best players!)

Last year's event was the most successful yet -- but it was followed by the biggest year for funding requests from CHS, said event organizer Hank Zona.

"The average request is significantly higher and even groups within the school with their own booster groups that have not had to come to us are looking for help," Zona said. "It will only get more challenging this year with the budget cuts."

He continued, "We do believe that strong activity offerings and participation make for a better high school and a better high school makes for a better community. We need the support this year more than ever or we won't be able to support the school to the extent we have in previous years."

The fee for an individual golfer is $225 and includes golf, cart, brunch and dinner.

If you can't attend the entire day, there are several other ways to help:

  1. Buy a tee sign ($100) or a family sponsor sign ($25)
  2. Become a corporate sponsor ($1,500 gets you golf, brunch and dinner for 4 players, plus a Tee-Sign and 4 raffle tickets)
  3. Donate a door prize or grand prize
  4. Sponsor brunch ($500) or dinner ($1,000)
  5. Skip the golf and come just for dinner ($100)
