Scholarship Started In Name Of Late Maplewood Bike Shop Owner
A new video tells how Columbia High School students have been helped by various scholarships.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Columbia High School Scholarship Fund awards a variety of scholarships each year to students at Columbia High School, which enrolls students from both Maplewood and South Orange. This year, they are offering a new scholarship in the name of Maplewood bike shop owner Danny Ives, who passed away in a motorcycle accident last year.
"Daniel (Danny) Ives was a lifelong Maplewood resident and lover of bikes, scooters, motorcycles, mopeds and anything else that ran on two wheels," says the Facebook page for the Scholarship Fund. "A gifted mechanic and creative thinker, Ives started building bikes and motorcycles from parts when he was very young, turning his passion first into a mobile bike repair service and later, opening his locally loved shop, Maplewood Bike Shed."
The newly established Daniel Ives Imaginative Mechanics Scholarship can be found through the Columbia High School Scholarship Fund (http://www.chssf.org/named-scholarships). It "recognizes a senior or graduate in need who shares Danny’s passion and creativity for mechanics or robotics by enrolling in a vocational/technical school or related program after high school."
