Over the past decades, dozens of professional athletes have called Essex County home.

The list of current and former residents includes:

• Lonnie Wright, who played for the Denver Broncos and Nuggets (Rockets), lived in South Orange.
• David Diehl, the two-time Super Bowl champion and former New York Giants offensive lineman, lives in West Orange.
• Larry Doby, the former Cleveland Indians star who broke the American League’s color barrier, lived in Montclair.
