Today begins Dr. Seuss week at the South Mountain YMCA Early Childhood Learning Center in Maplewood. Community volunteers, YMCA staff, and alumni from the Early Childhood Learning Center have signed up and will be reading Dr. Seuss books to YMCA pre-schoolers all week in honor of this national holiday. Kevin Kraft, a parent in the program, entertains the children as they arrive dressed as a 10 foot high Cat in the Hat.Â
The YMCA is also wrapping up the 2013 Strong Kids Campaign that ends on March 11. Funds raised in this campaign provide financial assistance to local families in need of Y programs, but otherwise unable to afford them. Funds are available for child care, sports, and enrichment programs at the YMCA. Â

Over $266,000 was given in financial assistance last year, thanks to a generous community that cares! If you are interested in supporting the campaign, please contact YMCA Executive Director, Marcia Meehan, or visit http://tinyurl.com/SKC-SM13. If you are interested in applying for financial assistance, please contact the Y at 973-762-4145. Applications are also available on the website at www.smountainymca.org.Â
Over 900 children attended summer day camp last year and 1 in every 9 children received assistance from this campaign. At the Y, we believe that every child deserves an opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. The Strong Kids Campaign makes this possible. Â
