South Amboy Breaks Ground On Manhattan Beach Club Apt. Complex

This is an 1,875-unit new luxury apartment complex that will sit within walking distance of the South Amboy train station.

SOUTH AMBOY, NJ — This past Friday, July 24, the city of South Amboy broke ground on the first phase of Manhattan Beach Club, a new apartment complex that will ultimately bring 1,875 luxury apartments to South Amboy.

The developer is BNE Real Estate Group, headquartered in Livingston.

The opening is a ways off, however: The initial phase of 291 apartments won't be ready for rent until the summer of 2022.

Along with the new development is the possible new South Amboy ferry terminal, with direct ferry service to New York City. As Patch reported last week, South Amboy received $5.3 million in Federal Transit Administration grants earlier this summer; the money will be used to build the ferry terminal.

The ferry terminal will have 700 parking spaces and it will be located just a short stroll away from the South Amboy train station.

Manhattan Beach Club will be built on a 55-acre property located between the South Amboy train station and Raritan Bay. These will be studio, one- and two-bedroom rentals, walkable to the train, ferry and downtown South Amboy. Manhattan Beach Club will also have an outdoor swimming pool with cabana seating, indoor and outdoor bars, barbecue grills, private and communal outdoor dining areas, firepits, lawn and garden lounge areas and outdoor TVs.

South Amboy officials believe the ferry operation, which will accommodate hundreds of commuters to New York City, will also draw more visitors to South Amboy’s growing downtown district.

“Smart, well-planned growth is a tremendous asset to our city,” said Mayor Fred Henry. “The Manhattan Beach Club will transform vacant industrial land into a bayfront destination providing stable long-term revenue to benefit our residents, both new and old, for decades to come.”
