Christmas Eve Fire Guts Middlesex Boro Home
At 8:35 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, the Middlesex police department received a 911 call reporting a house fire on Second Street.

MIDDLESEX, NJ — A fire destroyed a home in Middlesex borough on the morning of Christmas Eve.
The fire broke out in a house on Second Street, and gutted the second floor before causing extensive damage to the first floor. The home was left uninhabitable, the Middlesex police department said in a press release.
At 8:35 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24, the Middlesex police department received a 911 call reporting a house fire at 437 Second Street. All the residents had safely escaped the home, but reported heavy smoke conditions and flames shooting from the second floor windows.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is still under investigation by the Middlesex County Fire Marshall’s Office and the Middlesex Police Department.
Firefighters from Dunellen, Bound Brook, Piscataway and Franklin Township were called in to assist Middlesex borough volunteer firefighters.

This is the second home destroyed by a fire in Middlesex borough this December: On Dec. 15, a two alarm fire destroyed a home at 506 Harris Ave. The fire started at 8 p.m. and the home's only occupant, alerted to the blaze by a passerby, escaped the home before police arrived. However, she needed to be taken to Robert Wood University Hospital Somerset to be treated for smoke inhalation. She was released from the hospital.
