Hailed as one of the first “great” Broadway musicals of the 21st Century, The Drowsy Chaperone is a playful heartfelt parody of 1920s musical comedy, which features a chirpy jazz-age score by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, and a lively, clever book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar. This loving parody of a Jazz Age musical features one show-stopping song and dance number after another. The score boasts such tunes as the scenery-chomping “Show Off”, the sizzling and silly “I Am Aldolpho”, “Toledo Surprise”, and “As We Stumble Along”.
The show opens as a musical theatre fan; appears in a chair, listening to the record of his favorite musical, the fictional 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone. The musical comes to life on stage as " The Man in the Chair" wryly comments on the music, story, and actors. New York Magazine called it “The Perfect Broadway Musical,” "The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre". A must see for musical theater fans!
