Middlesex: Women In Car Killed By NJ Transit Train Identified

The women have been identified as Florence Obado, 73, of New Brunswick, who was the driver, and passenger Susan Mazurek, 44, of Middlesex.

MIDDLESEX, NJ — Tragedy struck Friday morning in Middlesex borough when an NJ Transit train on the Raritan Valley line hit a car, killing the two adult women inside the vehicle, a transit spokeswoman confirmed to Patch.

The women have been identified as Florence Obado, 73, of New Brunswick, who was the driver, and passenger Susan Mazurek, 44, of Middlesex borough.

The incident happened just past 8 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Avenue grade crossing. That is where the NJ Transit tracks cross over Cedar Avenue/Possumtown Road; it is located in Middlesex borough. The fatal accident happened less than two miles from the next station stop, Bound Brook.

Their car was on the train tracks when it was hit by the train, said an NJ Transit spokeswoman. Both were killed.

The train left Newark Penn Station at 7:21 a.m. and was due in High Bridge at 8:50 a.m. Service on the Raritan Valley line is currently suspended in both directions Friday morning between Plainfield and Raritan due to the fatalities.
