Sayreville Councilwoman Offers Preview to Council Meetings

Councilwoman Donna Roberts of Sayreville is hosting “Packet Meetings” to help the public walk through how Borough Council meetings work. This includes introducing who is at the council meeting, where they sit and the difference between the Council Meeting and the Agenda Meeting that follows directly after the Council Meeting.

“I find that most residents want to be informed, know what’s going on and participate, however the process and procedure around how the Council meetings work can be overwhelming. I’d like to make it clearer,” stated Councilwoman Roberts.

Packet Meetings are scheduled the Friday prior to the scheduled council meeting, which is the day the packet is delivered to the council. Refreshments like pizza and soft drinks will be provided.

“We want this to be an outreach to the public and we intend to do this in a non-partisan way. Really a community outreach activity, and invite guest speakers also,” continued Councilwoman Roberts.

These meetings started immediately when Councilwoman Roberts was sworn in with a small group of supporters and expanded to the first Pizza Packet Meeting that was held at Camillo’s in Sayreville. The plan was to open the Packet Meetings to the public and visit different Sayreville locations at different times between the receipt of the packet and the council meeting, in order to accommodate as many residents as possible, but the Pandemic restrictions prevented the Pizza Packet Meetings to continue.

Art Rittenhouse, Sayreville Republican Chairman said, “We are looking forward to serving the residents of Sayreville by providing valuable information and listening to what is important to our residents.”

The next Pizza Packet Meeting will be scheduled soon now that the Pandemic restrictions are starting to lift. Currently, the meetings are held via Zoom.
