Assault Charges Filed Against Four In Middletown

Middletown police recently arrested defendants on assault charges, in unrelated cases.

Aggravated assault is an indictable offense that is usually heard in state Superior Court, while simple assault is a disorderly persons offense generally in municipal court.

According to a news release from Deputy Chief Stephen Dollinger:

Varashon McQueen, age 45, from Main Street in Belford, was arrested on September 24 by Detective Keith Hirschbein on charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. She was released after posting $30,000 bail with a 10 percent option.

Dayna DeSanto, age 37, from Thompson Avenue in Middletown, was arrested on September 28 by Patrolman Nicholas Fenezia on charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. She was held on $10,000 bail set by Judge Richard Thomspon.

Sean McCoy, age 52, from Thomas Street in Belford, was arrested on September 27 by Patrolman John Walsifer on a charge of Simple Assault. He was released pending a court date.

Ashley Sammond, age 19, from Apple Valley Road in Belford, was arrested on September 28 by Patrolman Daniel Benbrook on a charge of Simple Assault. She was released pending a court date.
