Avid Golfer, Traveler, 90, of Middletown, Dies
She was a communicant of S. Mary's from 1956 and she and her husband were avid golfers, belonging to Beacon Hill Country Club for over 30 years.

Harriett Whalen, 90, of Middletown, NJ, died on August 26, 2013 at her home. She was born on January 1, 1923 in Birmingham, AL and moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1937. While in Philadelphia, Harriett worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 10 years, from 1941 to 1951, where she met and married her husband, Charles. They then moved to Middletown in 1956 where she raised her family. She was a communicant of S. Mary's from 1956 and she and her husband were avid golfers, belonging to Beacon Hill Country Club for over 30 years. Harriett and Charles loved to travel extensively in their retirement. Her greatest passion was her family and friends.
Surviving are her two daughters, Christine and her husband Ed Mutch of Brielle, and Louise Whalen of Middletown; her grandson, Edward and his wife Jillian Mutch of Hoboken; and her great-grandson, Eddie Mutch.
Harriet was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Charles V. Whalen Jr., her parents, Elbert and Florence Brazelton, and her son, Charles V. Whalen III.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28 from 6 to 8 pm at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 29 at 8:15 am at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Thursday, August 29 at 9:15 amat St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown. Burial will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
