Community Cleanup: Volunteers Take On Litter In Middletown
The cleanup was the first Mini Grant Clean Communities litter cleanup event to be held in Middletown.
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Middletown volunteers, including boy scouts from a local troop, joined forces earlier this month to help clean up litter and pollutants.
The May 15 cleanup day was made possible through Mini Grant Clean Communities, a program from Middletown Township that offers local nonprofits $500 grants to help clean up litter.
During the cleanup, volunteers collected 12 bags of trash from around Croydon Hall and the athletic fields across the street, the township said.

“We encourage our non-profits to adopt a spot in town that they would like to spruce up,” Middletown Mayor Tony Perry said in a statement. “It’s easy to participate and an opportunity to give back to nature while spending some time outdoors and working together for a cause you believe in.”
To get involved in a cleanup or to learn more about the grant program, individuals and nonprofits should visit the township's Earth Month website.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this grant to our local nonprofit groups,” said Amy Sarrinikolaou, Middletown Recycling & Clean Communities Division Head. “It gives them a chance to earn money to put towards their own programs while encouraging others to join in Middletown’s commitment to sustainability."
