Middletown's Croydon Hall Getting New Bleachers And New Gym Floor

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Now that it has a new floor, Croydon Hall gymnasium should reopen for public use sometime in early April. New bleachers are supposed to be installed in May or June, promised Middletown Twp.

The new bleachers at Croydon Hall will be four tiers and will also feature adjustable seat areas along the lower row to provide access for those who use wheelchairs. The bleachers will be grey with black railings.

Croydon Hall gymnasium on Leonardville Road is a multi-purpose facility used by a combination of recreation and travel leagues in Middletown. It is also used by local gymnastics teams, and Middletown Recreation also holds its summer camps there.

Starting even before the pandemic, Middletown has done much work at Croydon Hall: The building got an entirely new roof in July 2020, and restoration of the entire building was also completed around that time.

The inside of the gym also got a fresh new coat of paint.

The new gym floor at Croydon Hall will be lined to provide for overlapping full-size basketball and volleyball courts as well as two additional short-sided basketball and volleyball courts. The posts holding volleyball nets will be sleeved into the floor, eliminating the need to roll out portable nets each game. Permanent safety pads will be installed on the wall at the north end of the gym and more safety padding will be hung along the stage once the floor is complete.
