Development Could Displace Monmouth Day Camp?

A development application for "Oxley Estates" was signed by a member of the family that owns the camp, the Asbury Park Press reported.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ - A 17-home development is proposed for Taylor Lane in Middletown Township, which could displace Monmouth Day Camp, a popular day camp that operates from Taylor Lane every summer, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

The development would be called "Oxley Estates," and the development application is signed by a member of the family that owns and runs Monmouth Day Camp, the Press learned. Joseph and Ruth Oxley founded the camp in 1958. The camp is run by their son John Oxley. The developers of the subdivision, American Properties based in Iselin, are due back before the Middletown Township Planning Board at the February meeting.

It is unknown if the camp will move to a new location if Oxley Estates is approved, or shut down entirely. The camp did not return calls to the Press. It's been a popular day camp in the Middletown area for decades. On their Facebook page, the camp is still accepting sign-ups for summer 2017.
