A flood watch and a wind advisory were in effect for New Jersey on Thursday as a storm system packing heavy rain and powerful winds will move through. More than 8,000 were without power. See the list of towns with power outages below.
Wind gusts up to 50 mph could blow down tree limbs and power lines, the National Weather Service said. Scattered power outages are expected.
A line of heavy rain with possible thunderstorms will move in this afternoon between 12 noon and 3 p.m. Widespread wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible with this system that could bring down tree limbs, trees and power lines, according to the National Weather Service.

Things will likely remain dry through the weekend with the next chance of wet weather coming next Monday. The precipitation is currently expected to begin as snow Monday and then transition to rain.

"Right now it looks like the precipitation will gradually change back over to snow from northwest to southeast Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning as the front moves across the region," the NWS said in a forecast discussion Thursday morning. "No significant snowfall is expected at this time."

- Thursday: Rain, mainly before 4pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 48 by 5pm. Breezy, with a south wind 14 to 23 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
- Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 28. West wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
- Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. West wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
- Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 17. West wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30. West wind around 7 mph.
- Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24.
- Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 43.
- Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.
- Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36.
