Kate Eggleston: Still Life, at the Monmouth Museum

NJ Emerging Artists Series at the Monmouth Museum

“I am an interdisciplinary fiber artist focusing on hand dyed textiles, soft sculpture, and slow stitching,” said Kate Eggleston, the Monmouth Museum’s latest artist to be featured in their New Jersey Emerging Artists Series from October 18th through November 17th, 2019. Still Deep will open with a reception on October 18th, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, and the Artist’s Gallery Talk will be held on November 6th from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Both the Opening Reception and the Gallery Talk are free and open to the public.

At its core, Still Deep is a sculptural exploration of adaptation. “My work serves as a catalog of my experience with gender roles as a stay-at-home mother, wife, and teacher. I obsessively sew numerous duplicates of simple forms, then use them to build biomorphic abstractions. The sculptures become collections of otherworldly, pliable curves and gentle planes merging into and branching off from one another” said Eggleston.

Eggleston is an active member and volunteer with Artworks Trenton, Monmouth Arts Council, Hopewell Valley Arts Council, and the Monmouth County Park System. She received her BA in Visual Art and a K-12 New Jersey Art Teacher Certification from Ramapo College in 2005. She was awarded 1st Place for Textiles at Arts in the Park Highland Park in 2017, and 3rd Place for her Indigo Sukkah installation at Sukkahwood. She was a Student Mini Grant recipient of the Andrew W. Mellon Arts Common Good Grant from Drew University in 2014.
