Lane Closures Expected for Route 36 Paving Project

Paving work expected to run from Monday through Wednesday

Final milling and paving on Route 36 within Middletown is planned to begin next week and will result in a few days worth of lane closures, according to authorities.

Installation of a new sanitary sewer line under the road has been completed, with the pipe operational since August, said Dave Palamara, administrator for the Atlantic Highlands-Highlands Regional Sewerage Authority.

To complete the project, milling and repaving in the area is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 18, through Wednesday, Nov. 20.

“All disturbed parts of Route 36, Navesink, Monmouth and Sears Avenues will be repaved,” Palamara said. “At the request of the township, there are some additional areas of Monmouth Avenue that will also be repaved to address existing problems in those areas.”

Roadwork will begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at about 5:30 p.m. each day. Authorities request that motorists use alternate routes when possible as lane closures are necessary to complete the project.

Middletown police will be on-site to assist with traffic, and electronic signs will provide motorists with advanced notice of the construction.

“Access for emergency vehicles, school busses and municipal services vehicles will be maintained at all times, but access to individual driveways and side roads will be limited while work is being done” and a few hours afterward, Palamara said.
