Middletown Native Is Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

A Middletown native is a the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.


Shilique Calhoun, a senior defense end at Michigan State and graduate of Middletown High School North received the honor.

With ten seconds left in the game, Michigan State scored to beat Michigan this weekend.

According to a news release:

  • “(Calhoun) recorded five tackles, including a career-best 3.5 tackles for loss, in Michigan State’s victory over Michigan
  • “His tackles for loss totaled 11 yards, including a pair of sacks for a loss of six yards
  • “ (He was) part of a Michigan State defense that forced the Wolverines to go three-and-out on six possessions.”

This is Calhoun’s third Defensive Player of the Week honor and his second this season. The last was on Sept. 28.

According to the school’s website, he is also a two-time second-team All-American player, a two-time, first-team Big Ten Player and was the 2013 Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year.
