Cliffwood Woman Hit, Killed By Car On Rt. 35 In Aberdeen

A local Cliffwood Beach woman has been identified as the person struck and killed by a car on Rt. 35 early Tuesday morning.

ABERDEEN, NJ — A local Cliffwood Beach woman has been identified as the person struck and killed by a car on Rt. 35 in Cliffwood early Tuesday morning, according to Aberdeen Township Police.

Marlene Liptak, 71, of Cliffwood Beach was pronounced dead on the scene, said a spokesman for the Monmouth County prosecutor. The driver of the car was uninjured, remained at the scene and no charges have been filed.

At 6:02 a.m., Aberdeen Police were called to Rt. 35 northbound and Cliffwood Avenue. Police say the driver and sole occupant of a 2018 Ford Explorer heading north on 35 had the green light as it traveled through the intersection of Cliffwood Avenue.

The driver told police he observed a male pedestrian walking in the crosswalk carrying a dog, in front of the car. The driver swerved to the right to avoid the male pedestrian and collided with female pedestrian, Liptak. The man was her husband.

The accident shut down all lanes of Rt. 35 northbound for a few hours before the morning commute.

The state DOT initially said the accident happened in Middletown, but Middletown police clarified it occurred in the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen.
