Middletown Police Charge Driver With Gun Possession After Crash, Cops Say

Middletown police investigating a hit-and-run crash on Route 36 arrested one person on a gun charge and another on a drug charge, cops say.

Middletown police investigating a hit-and-run crash on Route 36 arrested two Highlands residents, charging one with gun possession and the other with drug possession, authorities said.

According to a news release from police:

Police responded to the crash on Route 36 shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, and learned one vehicle had fled.

Police located that vehicle, and after an investigation by Officers Bernie Chenoweth and Robert McNair, both the driver and passenger were taken into custody.

The driver, Stevie A. Rocha-Hughes, 30 from Portland Avenue, Highlands was charged with Taking a Vehicle Without The Owners Consent and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun. She was also issued summonses charging her with various motor vehicle offenses. Her bail was set $5,000.

The passenger, Clifton J. Hughes, 38, from Portland Avenue, Highlands was charged with Possession of Cocaine. His bail was set at $2,500.

Both defendants were sent to the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township.
