Middletown Wawa Rejected By Planning Board

At their March 6 meeting, the Middletown Planning Board rejected an offer from Wawa to open at the site of the former Friendly's on 35.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Don't hold your breath for a second Wawa in Middletown.

The Middletown Planning Board rejected an offer from Wawa to open up at the site of the former Friendly's on Highway 35. There also would have been a gas station attached.

The Planning Board made this decision at their March 6 meeting. The Board did not yet formally say why they rejected the Wawa.

Wawa is trying to aggressively expand in this part of Central Jersey: The current Wawa in Middletown is located on 75 Appleton Avenue, on Highway 36. There is a Wawa in Aberdeen and Wawa plans to open in Hazlet, as well.
