Monmouth County Presents Home Gardening Symposium March 28

FREEHOLD, NJ — Spring is right around the corner, we just know it! To that end, the Monmouth County Master Gardeners will host their fifth annual Home Garden Symposium on Saturday, March 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monmouth County Agriculture Building, 4000 Kozloski Road in Freehold. All are welcome to this educational event; admission is $10 per person.

“The Home Garden Symposium is an enjoyable, informative experience for gardeners,” said Freeholder Lillian Burry, liaison to Rutgers Cooperative Extension. “The Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who help the home gardener prepare an environmentally-responsible and flourishing garden.”

At the daylong event, Master Gardeners will present workshops on numerous topics including soil health, tomatoes, pollinators and plants that deer do not like to eat. Participants will be able to view a live gardening demonstration and attend a Q&A panel discussion with horticulturalists.

A Rutgers Cooperative Extension Master Gardner Helpline table will be open at the symposium to answer gardening questions. The helpline is also available year-round on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 732-303-7614.

“The Master Gardeners are available to help gardeners with horticultural matters, diagnosis and solve home gardening problems,” said Freeholder Burry. “The symposium offers a wealth of information for your gardening questions and problems that you may face in horticulture.”

In conjunction with the Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the Monmouth County Master Gardener’s program seeks to educate everyone in horticultural topics, helps answer questions regarding gardening problems around the home, supports community gardens for towns and schools and provides a speaker’s bureau to bring Master Gardener led discussions to local gardening clubs and other interested community groups around the County.
