Name Released Of Middletown Man Hit, Killed By Car On Hwy. 36

He was hit by a car Friday night while walking on Hwy. 36 north. He was struck just past the main gate entrance to NWS Earle. ?

MIDDLETOWN, NJ ? Dennis Bannon, 60, of Leonardo, has now been identified as the local man struck by a car and killed Friday evening, Oct. 18, in the heart of Middletown.

Middletown Police responded to a 911 call at 8:07 p.m. Friday for a report of a pedestrian struck by a car. This happened on Hwy. 36 near Navy Weapons Station Earle, near the intersection of Broadway.

Upon arrival, officers found the man, Bannon, lying in the roadway with serious bodily injuries.

Police say Bannon was walking along Hwy. 36 north when he was hit. He was hit a short distance past the main gate entrance to NWS Earle.

The driver, whose identity is not being released at this time, was cooperative with police during the investigation. No charges have been filed.

Bannon was treated and transported by Port Monmouth First Aid Squad to Hackensack Meridian Health Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank where he was pronounced dead.

Middletown Police are asking for help from anyone who would have been in the area of Route 36 and may have seen Bannon prior to the time of the crash, or witnessed the crash.
