MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — Nikki Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under President Donald Trump, will be in Monmouth County this weekend, campaigning for Jack Ciattarelli.

Ciattarelli is the Republican running against Phil Murphy this November in the New Jersey governor's race. He is a former assemblyman from Somerset County.

Haley was also the Republican governor of South Carolina before she joined the Trump administration.

Haley will speak to donors at a private event in Monmouth County at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, said Stami Williams, spokeswoman for Ciattarelli's campaign. She said it was a private event and was unable to disclose where this will take place, or even what town in Monmouth County.

Ciattarelli is trailing Murphy in the polls, but Monmouth County is a Republican stronghold in New Jersey. A majority of Monmouth County voters backed Republican Kim Guadagno when she ran against Murphy (100,872 votes/55 percent to 78,798 votes/43 percent for Murphy), and Monmouth County usually chooses Republicans for U.S. president (Trump, Trump, Mitt Romney and John McCain).

"The people of New Jersey deserve better," said Haley in her endorsement of Ciattarelli. "They're sick of sky-high taxes, reckless spending, closed businesses and rising crime. I'm proud to endorse Jack Ciattarelli to fix what Phil Murphy has broken. A Main Street business owner, Jack understands the importance of lowering taxes, getting New Jersey working again and standing with law enforcement officers to keep communities safe.”

Haley is the highest profile elected official to endorse Ciattarelli yet. He thanked her Friday.

“Ambassador Nikki Haley was an integral part of bringing the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and an exceptional governor for South Carolina, where she created hundreds of thousands of jobs and demonstrated true leadership under fire," he said. "I am honored to have her endorsement and appreciate her efforts to help make sure Phil Murphy is one and done in ‘21.”

After she left the Trump administration, Haley founded the Stand For America political action committee, which, in her words, backs: "principled conservatives who stand up for the ideas our country was founded on. We are looking for candidates who understand what is at stake, who believe America is inherently good, and who stand against socialism. We will support candidates who understand that the Democrats’ liberal policies undermine our freedom and who have the courage to speak up even in the toughest of environments."
