NJ Weather: 116-Degree Heat Index As Weather About To Get Worse

Just when you thought it was safe to outside again: We're (already) dealing with bad weather once again. Find out where and when.

Remember that ugly weather that lingered in New Jersey for weeks? It's back, and one area of the state already has a heat index of 116 degrees.

A hazardous weather outlook and a heat advisory have been issued for the next three days as the heat index is supposed to continue to zoom past 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

In the Middletown area, the heat index hit 116 degrees on Monday around 2 p.m. Other areas of the state were dealing with terrible temperatures, too.

Rutgers/NJ Agricultural Experimental Station

The worst of it could arrive on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon, when heat index values are forecast to range from 100 to 104 throughout the state, according to the NWS.

Here is the forecast for the rest of the week (this does not include heat indexes):

  • Monday afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 91. West wind 3 to 6 mph.
  • Monday night: Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 73. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Tuesday: Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 102. Light west wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
  • Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 94. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph.
  • Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 75.
  • Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Thursday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
