Red Bank has hired a paid ambulance service, the Asbury Park Press reported Monday.
According to the Press, the municipal council approved a contract with Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service Corp to provide the service for $30,000.
Officials told the newspaper that a high call volume led to the decision to retain paid ambulance services on a 24 hour basis, versus a previously plan that leaned on volunteers to cover nighttime hours and the paid service to cover days. The economy, officials said, have led to fewer people being able to volunteer in recent years.
