Security Drill Could Slow Traffic Near NWS Earle Thursday

The drill and increased police presence may slow traffic on Route 34 and Route 36.

A drill at Naval Weapons Station Earle could slow traffic in both Middletown and Colts Neck, according to NWS officials.

There will be increased police security surrounding the bases, these drills are conducted several times per year. The drill is not in response to a threat, and is procedure.

Michael Brady, NWS Spokesman, said the type of drill could range from preparing for an active shooter to a breach of perimeter.

“Motorists traveling in the vicinity of the Mainside (Route 34 in Colts Neck) or Waterfront (Route 36 in Leonardo) gates should be aware of the potential for slower moving traffic in the area,” a news release said.
