Susu Pianchupattana: Inseparable, at the Monmouth Museum
Monmouth Museum's NJ Emerging Artists Series
“My work touches on interpersonal connections and the bonding of one person to another.” The Monmouth Museum’s New Jersey Emerging Artists Series will present Inseparable by Susu Pianchupattana from September 15th through October 13th, 2019 in the Nilson Gallery at the Museum, located at 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ. Susu’s Gallery Talk will be held on October 2nd from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM, The Gallery Talk is free and open to the public.
Moved by human beauty and the mysteries of nature, Inseparable explores interpersonal connections and the bonding of one person to another; unbreakable through the natural truth of inevitable separation. I paint and draw from both direct observation and my own invention. My process involves the grinding and mixing of pigments then layering these colors with varying degrees of abstraction and realism. The method progresses by continually adding weight and subtracting elements of the human form until the image starts to reveal itself. I sculpt the subject through the application and removal of multiple layers of paint to achieve contrast and subtlety of value in the spaces between. Through the creation of my work, I am continually trying to learn to understand and accept the truths of nature that we meet only to part. I often look back in my life and see that unplanned experiences with others are the most valuable and that each moment is somehow connected to the next, building upon each other to manifest my current life story. I split my time between my hometown of Bangkok, Thailand and my current home in the United States, where I have lived in New York City, Los Angeles CA, Nashville Tennessee and now currently settled here in New Jersey by the sea.
Susu Pianchupattana Awards include the Hohenberg Travel Grant (Italy), Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (Fellowship), Masur Museum of Art’s 35th Annual Juried Competition (Best Painting), VCCA Resident Fellow (Virginia Center for the Creative Arts), Award of Merit at the 18th Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City (Taiwan). She enjoys a distinguished reputation as a painter among her peers and art connoisseurs and collectors.
