MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Here are photos of the serious crash that occurred Sunday night on Highway 36 in the Leonardo section of Middletown. The accident happened in the area of Hosford Avenue in Leonardo.
The crash happened last night (Sunday, Jan. 6) at 7:40 p.m., according to Bob Pfleger, the public information officer for the Middletown EMS department. It involved two cars and one person had to be extricated from the wreckage by Middletown firefighters; photos of firefighters removing the wreckage were provided to Patch.

Leonardo First Aid & Rescue Squad and Lincroft First Aid & Rescue Squad transported a total of three injured people to area hospitals: The most seriously injured person was taken to the trauma center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and the other two people were taken to Riverview Medical Center.
