Historic 'Battle Of Short Hills' House Sold In Westfield: Report

WESTFIELD, NJ — The "Battle of Short Hills" may be little known, but a historic home in Westfield once owned by a lieutenant who served in that 1777 fight has inspired preservation efforts over the years. Now, the home has sold for $515,000, according to a report in TAPinto Westfield.

The Westfield Historic Preservation Commission had said in 2018 that it hoped to save the historic Pierson-Clark House, located at 1481 East Broad St. It was built in 1755. READ MORE: Effort To Save Historic Pierson-Clark Home

Now that it has sold last month, Westfield Town Planner Donald Sammet told TAPinto that anyone hoping to demolish the house will need permission, thanks to rules passed last year by the Westfield Town Council. The regulations require owners of a home built before 1930 to undergo a review by the town’s Historic Preservation officer before demolishing it.
