12-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Montville Lake: Prosecutor

MONTVILLE, NJ — A 12-year-old boy drowned in Montville Wednesday afternoon, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office confirmed.

Officials said the boy drowned at Lake Valhalla in Montville Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. The boy was underwater for 20 minutes before he was rescued, News 12 reported. The child was playing by the docks at the time of the drowning, where the water is about 10 feet deep.

The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials told ABC 7.

Lifeguards were watching the lake at the time of the drowning, officials reportedly said. They confirmed that the death is not considered suspicious.

The boy's name has not been released. More information will not be released today, the prosecutor's office said.
