500 Layoffs Coming for 2 Morris Healthcare Giants

Consolidations behind operations' reductions in staff, report says.

Two of Morris County’s largest healthcare and medical companies will be reducing their staffs by a combined 515 employees before the end of 2016.

WARN Notices, or Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notifications, were issued to 350 employees at GlaxoSmithKline in Parsippany, and another 165 were given to employees at Zoetis, Inc. in Florham Park, according to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare’s cuts, with two facilities in Parsippany, will be completed before the current year is over, nj.com reported. Zoetis, which spun off from Pfizer in 2013, will complete its reduction by end of 2016, the report said.

GSK’s cuts come as a result of a joint venture between the company and Novartis to consolidate consumer healthcare businesses, the report said.
