Chinese Acrobats, Lion Dancers Inspire Montville Students

Dance China New York brought a taste of Chinese culture, customs and dance to elementary students.

Bright gold and red lion dancers and acrobats drew smiles and awe from Woodmont Elementary students last week.

The Woodmont PTA hosted a cultural arts program that featured Dance China New York, an interactive dance and acrobatics performance that introduces audiences to Chinese culture, customs and dance. The PTA presented this program in conjunction with Young Audiences Arts for Learning, the nation’s largest arts in education network.

Dance Chine New York performed at Montville Township’s Woodmont Elementary School on Jan. 13 to grades K - 5.

Students were introduced to the Lion Dance, Chinese language, and acrobatics, one of the world’s oldest art forms. Skilled gymnasts, jugglers, dancers and acrobats demonstrated physical strength, agility, and dexterity, while infusing their performances with playfulness and humor. Many students participated throughout the 45-minute presentation, said Susan Conover Marinello, District Communications Officer.
