Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.
Name:Â Homeless Bus
Town:Â Towaco, NJ
Nominated by:Â Robert Ginsberg
Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"Â
Homeless Bus is an everyday inspiration is every single sense of the word! They are an amazing Towaco, NJ organization that heads into NYC every Saturday night since 1992 to help feed the homeless.
Mark and Anna Landgrebe, Directors of this organization, have pretty much been running this on their own, with limited assistance from friends and family but in recent months, realize that as the numbers of homeless people rise, they are feeding and assisting more people than ever.
It is only now, due to the insistence of others, that they recognized the need to reach out to the public for more volunteers.
Has the nominee's life been changed in an extraordinary way?Â
In 1992, Director Mark Landrgebe attended an Anthony Robbins seminar in Hawaii where he heard about a program that helped feed needy families on holidays, prompting him into action.
At first, Mark delivered food only on holidays, but he quickly realized that holidays weren't enough and that these people were in need of assistance every day. Lacking the funds to aid them daily, Mark settled on Saturday night deliveries and has consistently visited these people weekly ever since, logging in over two decades of visits.Â
How does this person work to make others' lives better?
On Saturday evenings, Homeless Bus departs from Towaco, New Jersey and heads for the Lincoln Tunnel. There are regular stops where the people they serve - men, women and children, know to meet us. Homeless Bus arrives to crowds of smiles along the curb, grateful for the warm meal, clothes, toiletries, and much love with which they are about to receive.
