Man Killed In I-80 Was Running From Cops: NJ AG

Police say the man ran into traffic during a traffic stop on Route 80.

MONTVILLE, NJ — The man killed on I-80 early Thursday morning was running away from State Police, New Jersey Attorney General's office said.

Kevin Brian Cruz, 25, of Black River, N.Y., was struck and killed by a tractor trailer Thursday. His death is now under investigation by the Attorney General’s Shooting Response Task Force because it happened during an encounter with police, officials said.

Cruz was pulled over on the westbound lanes of I-80 by a Montville police officer around 2:20 a.m. An officer asked Cruz to get out of the car, and when he did, Cruz ran into the roadway, where he was struck and killed, officials said.
