Montville 12u Baseball Shines in Cooperstown
The Montville 12u Baseball team traveled to Dreams Park in Cooperstown, New York to compete in a 104-team national tournament in late July. The Mustangs fared extremely well, winning four games in four days and smashing 13 home runs against high level competition from around the country. The boys defeated teams from Wisconsin, North Carolina, California, and Pennsylvania and advanced to the third round of the playoffs before falling 14-9 to a club team from Los Angeles.
Six different players had multiple home runs for Montville to pace the prolific Mustang offense. Trevor Pasquale led the way with three homers, followed by two each from Michael Ciullo, Richie Mattina, CJ Campbell, Jake Volpe, and Jack Olohan. Catcher Tyler Hedenberg was terrific behind the plate and with the bat, Vincent Saraceno made several highlight plays at second base, leadoff hitter Michael Vito "set the table" by getting on base to start almost every game, Benjamin Bruchhauser and Hersh Parikh were stalwarts of the pitching staff, and Nick DelGuidice was a terror on the basepaths all week.
