Montville Broncos Wrestling Captures Team Title at Montville Duals

The 2014 wrestling season could not have started any better for the Montville Broncos Youth Varsity Team.

The Broncos under the leadership of Bruce Weil (Director of Wrestling/Varsity Coach), Billy Templeton (Varsity Head Coach) and Ken Kurzer (Varsity Assistant Coach) led the talented young Bronco team to their first team title in over 7 years at the 21st Montville Duals. The Montville Duals is a two day tournament where teams and clubs from all over New Jersey and different states compete in a dual meet tournament.

The Bronco’s went 6-0 defeating Roxbury, Mendham, Paramus, Sepa White, Red Nose Black and Danbury PAL. The Broncos and Danbury PAL met the morning of Day 2 of the tournament, both coming in undefeated. The young Broncos edged out Danbury with an exciting 43-41 win which went down to the last match. Coach Weil and Coach Templeton were very pleased with this group of young wrestlers. “Every wrestler went out there and gave it their all and we could not have been prouder. The kids are working hard at practice, learning and most of all having fun. We are looking forward to a very promising season.”

This is the second major team title for the Broncos in as many years. Last year, the Bronco’s traveled to Mexico, New York to compete in the Battle for the Belt tournament and walked away as the overall team champions beating out over 30 teams.

The Montville Broncos have over 70 wrestlers in the program and field three teams. Their youth Varsity team wrestles in the Tri County League which is one of the toughest leagues in New Jersey. The Broncos also have a youth Junior Varsity team that wrestles in the North Jersey Silver League. First and second year wrestlers wrestle in the Novice league where they learn the basics of wrestling and get to compete against wrestlers of the same skill level.
