MAD SCIENCE CLASSES for Age 3 1/2 through Grade 6 depending on program

The Montville Recreation Department will be sponsoring MAD SCIENCE CLASSES for Age 3 1/2 through Grade 6 depending on program.

Program Options:

The Mad Side of Science - Join us afterschool in the Mad Science club for some awesome hands on fun! Become a detective, an engineer, a chemist, a film maker and more! Take apart the earth as you explore volcanoes, or become a toy maker as you explore the science of toys! Create crazy cool concoctions in the kitchen as you cook up chemistry, and explore the human body as we learn what makes us tick! Every week we explore a new and exciting topic. Mad Science supplies a new project to build for each class. Let’s get mad and silly with MAD SCIENCE! *

Mission: CODE - MISSION:CODE both engages and teaches children that computers do not think for themselves, but that they are programmed by humans. Not only computers, but all digital software, including games, apps, and websites, as well as hardware and other machines, such as microwaves, airplanes and traffic lights contain programs that are made by people. While engaged in MISSION:CODE, children will apply 21st century skills to solve problems like real programmers.

Red Hot Robotics - Explore the basic and complex technology used to design and build robots. Discover how machines and robots work and how they make our lives easier. Learn about simple machines, gear structure, battery wiring, motor principles, and electronic circuits. Experiment with different forms of locomotion – including wheels, legs, and “tracks”. Each child receives their own Elenco Teach Tech KC3 robot! *

School House Chess - Schoolhouse Chess brings chess pieces to life using creative and animated personalities that enable students to learn the game in a fun and exciting way. Students become fascinated with imaginative chess characters that accelerate the learning process. Meet online weekly with our live instructor as they cover the rules and strategies of chess. Children will have the opportunity to play head-to-head matches with other children in their class via an online private chess club. *

Crayola Wild World- Are you ready for an art exhibition? Let the wonder and beauty of the animal kingdom inspire your empathy, curiosity, and creativity. Learn about lions, elephants, sharks, and more, and find out how wildlife conservationists are working to protect species around the globe. Experiment with a variety of art techniques to create animal-inspired art projects, from frog paintings to polar bear sculptures! Let your creativity run wild! *

* The Mad Side of Science, Robotics, and Wild World have pick up materials (need to have before 1st class). *

* School House Chess includes a travel chess set. Mission CODE is completely virtual (no supplies needed). *

There are many class options and pricing varies. Please check out the flyer on our Montville website for a complete list.
