Monville Senior Receives National Honor

Only 5,300 students were selected nationwide from a pool of more than 259,000.

This year, the NHRP (National Hispanic Recognition Program) recognized about 5,300 Hispanic/Latino students selected from a pool of over 259,000 who took the 2012 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA and one of Montville’s very own made the cut.

The College Board announced the 2013-14 NHRP Scholars and “MTHS is proud to recognize Emily Marrero, (a senior), as the recipient of this recognition,” said the school. “Although the NHRP does not provide monetary awards, being named is an important academic achievement.”

Students with a junior year cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are designated as Scholars.

The NHRP was started in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students and each year, the NHRP honors about 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from over 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT, according to the College Board.

Students recognized by the NHRP are at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino and have achieved a minimum PSAT/NMSQT score for their region.
