Mustang Round-up

Highlights from MTHS sports teams for the week of December 22 to 29. Read about the players and the games.

BOWLING - The Mustangs won the New Years Classic on December 27 at Sparta lanes with a total pinball of 3094. The team was paced by Peter Ho and the Kattermann duo. Other noteworthy performances were that of Matt Chang and Sean McGuire. The Mustangs will compete again at the Falcon Frenzee on January 3rd at Sparta Lanes. Roll Stangs!!!

BOYS BASKETBALL - The Mustangs had a 67-38 victory over Boonton. Jacob Kaplan compiled 26 points and 13 points; Jacob Coleman delivered 16 points and Josh Grossman finished with 14 for Montville; Henry Russnow chipped in seven points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

The Mustangs were also victorious over Pompton Lakes int he Butler Tournament. Montville outscored Pompton Lakes, 21-11, in the third quarter. Jacob Kaplan scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Erik Werheim scored 14 points, while Jacob Coleman added 12 and Josh Grossman put in 13 to pace the offense.

The Mustangs continued their winning streak defeating Parsippany 70-54 in the final round of the Butler Tournament. Jacob Kaplan finished with 20 points and Erik Werheim finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jacob Coleman posted 16 points as Montville took a 38-14 halftime lead.

GIRLS BASKETBALL - Junior guard Kelly O’Reilly totaled 31 points, eight rebounds and six steals as the Montville girls basketball team defeated Boonton 58-44 on Monday. Freshman guard Jordan Strickland had eight points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Mustangs (1-1).

The Mustangs played West Milford. Kelly O’Reilly scored a game-high 18 points, hitting two 3-pointers, and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace Montville. The Mustang lost 33-35.

Kelly O’Reilly finished with a game-high 28 points against Mountain Lakes. The Mustangs lost 36-49.

ICE HOCKEY - Montville tied Ridewood 3-3. Emerson Emery scored on the man advantage with 2:55 remaining to tie the game for Montville. Tom Marabondo and Vincent Arlotta also scored for the Mustangs.

Montville was defeated by Summit 1-6. Tom Marabondo scored Montville’s lone goal with the assists going to Vincent Arlotta and Emerson Emery. Josh Beron made 32 saves in the cage.

WINTER TRACK - At the Racine Invitational on Saturday, the track team had many place finishes. Alex Rodgers took first in the Boys Shot Put, John Lee finished 3rd and Jacky Zheng finished 6th. Also, a 2nd place finish from Jenks Hehmeyer and a 5th place finish from Steve McManus in the 1600 meter. Hehmeyer also finished 4th in the 800 meter. Steve Rizio finished 4th and Dan Xia finished 6th in the 55 meter. Rizio also finished 2nd in the 400 meter. On the Girls side, Leah Wish won the high jump. Leah also placed third in the shot put and finished 3rd in the 55 meter Hurdle and Blythe Hehmeyer finished 6th. Blythe also tied for 2nd in the girls pole vault. Michelle Golowko placed 3rd in the 800 M and our Girls 4x400 M relay finished 6th.
