Highlights from Montville Twp High School sports teams for the week of Dec. 30, 2014 to Jan. 4, 2015. Mustangs Bowling ranked #1 in NJAC.

Highlights from MTHS sports teams for the week of December 30 to January 4

BOWLING - Mustangs are ranked #1 in the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference standings for week 5.

WRESTLING - The Mustangs placed 3rd at the Lenape Valley tournament on Saturday. Tournament champions were Connor Meytrott and Michael Glasser.

2nd place finishers were Ronald Rumsby, David Eng, Joe LaScala and Parker Fox. Finishing in 3rd place were Dimitri Bramwell, Maksym Pankiv and Alex Zevits. Way to go boys!!

In this past Saturday’s quad match, The Mustangs beat Montgomery 33 -27.

Ronald Rumsby, Michael Glasser, Daniel Jin, Sam Rosensweig, Dillon Fazliu, Nick Enriquez won their matches; the Mustangs also beat Dumont 58-15.

Winning their matches were Joe Lascala, Parker Fox, Ronald Rumsby, Connor Meytrott, Daniel Jin, Dillon Fazliu, Alex Zevits, Liridon Leka and Nick Enriquez. The Mustangs lost Watchung Hills 24-36. Winning their matches were Parker Fox, Ronald Rumsby, Connor Meytrott, Michael Glasser and Joe LaScala.

BOYS BASKETBALL - The Mustangs beat Dover 59-55 in an exciting come from behind victory. Montville outscored Dover 22-13 in the fourth quarter to seal the come from behind victory. Montville led 26-25 at halftime but Dover used a 17-11 third quarter to go ahead 42-37 going into the final period.

Jacob Coleman hit the winning free throws.

Jacob Kaplan had 23 points and 5 rebounds and 2 steals Erik Werheim had 12 points and 13 rebounds and 3 blocks Jacob Coleman has 10 points 2 rebounds and 3 steals Josh Grossman had 4 points 2 rebounds and 2 steals Nick Mastrandrea had 6 points and 3 steals Henry Russnow came off the bench and played big role in win. He had 4 points 7 rebounds and 1 steal.

Overall it was a great team effort and the team is playing well.

Montville lost their first game of the season to Mendham 56-43. Erik Werheim had 14 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and one steal and Jacob Kaplan had 16 points and nine rebounds. The Mustang record is tied for first place with Mendham at 5-1.

GIRLS BASKETBALL - Indian Hills defeated Montville, 52-49, in the first round of the Mountain Lakes Tournament in Mountain Lakes. Kelly O’Reilly had 26 points; Jennie Lake had 14 points; Jordan Strickland had 5 points; Lauren Minardi had 4.

ICE HOCKEY - Joe Belcastro, Aaron Scheine, and Emerson Emery each scored a goal for Montville against Morris Knolls. Montville was defeated by Morris Knolls 10-3.
